What is ADHD? ADD? DYSLEXIA ? LEARNING DISABILITY?

Hi friends,

I'm going back now to my true-to-life stories after a couple of postings on Love, friendship and relationship dedicated to the celebration of Valentines Day.

I will now talk about my son he is 6 going to 7 years old this August. He is Preparatory student. During the first grading, his teacher talk to me regarding his performance. She said that he still could not recognize all the letters in the Alphabet.

I said to her that even I was puzzled and troubled by the way he is learning. Because he already studied for 2 years before being in PREP. So I don't know if he needs medical attention on the matters of learning.

So after that talk, I inquired from a parent who is also a guidance counsellor of La Salle Greenhills on how much is the test for Learning Disability. Because I attended a seminar wherein she is the speaker held in the school about ADHD and Learning Disability. I thought it was just like 500pesos or 600pesos but she said it is 3000pesos. It is already a discounted price because she wants to help the school where her children also studies. I was not ready for this amount so I canceled the schedule and up to now haven't done it yet.

I resorted to research on the ADHD/ADD/Dyslexia and other Learning disabilities.

See discussions below.

ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

What is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, ADHD, is one of the most common mental disorders that develop in children. Children with ADHD have impaired functioning in multiple settings, including home, school, and in relationships with peers. If untreated, the disorder can have long-term adverse effects into adolescence and adulthood.

Signs & Symptoms

Symptoms of ADHD will appear over the course of many months, and include:

* Impulsiveness: a child who acts quickly without thinking first.
* Hyperactivity: a child who can't sit still, walks, runs, or climbs around when others are seated, talks when others are talking.
* Inattention: a child who daydreams or seems to be in another world, is sidetracked by what is going on around him or her.

How is it diagnosed?

If ADHD is suspected, the diagnosis should be made by a professional with training in ADHD. This includes child psychiatrists, psychologists, developmental/behavioral pediatricians, behavioral neurologists, and clinical social workers. After ruling out other possible reasons for the child’s behavior, the specialist checks the child’s school and medical records and talks to teachers and parents who have filled out a behavior rating scale for the child. A diagnosis is made only after all this information has been considered.

Treatment

Effective treatments for ADHD are available, and include behavioral therapy and medications

IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES

A poem for us in love.

Susan E.

IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES

If I knew it would be the last time that I’d see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss and call you back for more.
If I knew it would be the last time I’d hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word, so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time, I could spare an extra minute or two to stop and say “I LOVE YOU”, instead of assuming, you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share your day, well I’m sure you’ll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there’s always tomorrow to make up for an oversight, and we always get a second chance to make everything right.
There will always be another day to say our “I love you’s”,
And certainly there’s another chance to say our “Anything I can do’s?”

But just in case I might be wrong and today is all I get,
I’d like to say how much I love you and I hope you never forget,
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight….

So if you’re waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes, you’ll surely regret the day,
That you didn’t take an extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss and you were too busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their one last wish,

So hold your loved ones close today, whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them and that you’ll always hold them dear,
Take time to say “I’m sorry”, “Please forgive me”, “Thank you”, or “it’s okay”
And if tomorrow never comes, you’ll have NO regrets about today

Woman to Woman Encouragement

To all my girlfriends, here's my Valentine gift for you.

Woman to Woman Encouragement
>
> Someone will always be prettier. They will always be smarter.
> Their house will be bigger. They will drive a better car. Their children
> will do better in school. And their husband will fix more things around
> the house. So let it go, and love you and your circumstances. Think
> about it. The prettiest woman in the world can have hell in her heart.
> And the most highly favored woman on your job may be unable to have
> children. And the richest woman you know-she's got the car, the house,
> the clothes-might be lonely. And the word says if I have not Love, I am
> nothing. So, again, love you. Love who you are right now and let God be
> your barometer. Mirror Him. Look in the mirror in the morning and see
> how much of God you see. He's the only standard and even when you come
> up short; he will not leave you or forsake you. Smile and may God
> continue to BLESS YOU Real GOOD!! "I am too blessed to be stressed and
> too anointed to be disappointed!" The shortest distance between a
> problem and a solution is the distance between your knees and the floor.
> "The one who kneels to God can stand up to anything." "Winners make
> things happen. Losers let things happen." Be Blessed ladies and pass
> this on to encourage another woman.

Valentines Day - Dedicated for the Sick

MANILA, Philippines - As people demonstrate love and affection on Valentine's Day, the Manila archdiocese asked the faithful to spend the day showing solidarity for the sick.

Manila archdiocese health care ministry head Fr. Prudencio Solomon said this is in line with the late Pope John Paul II's institution of World Day of the Sick on May 13, 1992.

"In this celebration, we urged to show our love, compassion, and care for the sick, the aged, the disabled, and the dying," Solomon said in a memorandum.

Solomon said they will mark the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes on Feb. 14 with an archdiocesan Mass for the sick to mark the 17th World Day of the Sick.

Manila auxiliary bishop Broderick Pabillo will be the main celebrant in the Mass at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Spirit Parish (Espiritu Santo Parish) at 1912 Rizal Avenue in Santa Cruz, Manila.

I think it just right to give the sick people more attention and love specially on Valentines day.
